On @KamalaHarris' book, The Truths We Hold.
What a delightful read. Light, but heavy, tender but tough. She's a complex mix of ethnographic energy, a Jamaican hustler's dream come true. An Indian matriarch of multiple minute mirrors - which she holds up boldly to all whom she comes across - from the #subprime minister of finance that parades as #POTUS, to the criminal suffering in the deep south jail cell. Imagine America on trial, and her prosecuting for the people: that's how deep she is preparing to go. She doesn't glance over history, nor does she belabor it, but she provokes you to think about what you hold dear, and recognizes your hustle all the while executing hers. She can break down a witness, hijack an alibi, and turn you around in circles if you lie to her. Which is why America's lies: affordable housing, education, and healthcare, are in jeopardy with her on the warpath. Dreamers are recognized, and the American Dream is waiting in the wings for all those who dare to support her candidacy. We need to feed Kamala: feed her your detriments, your struggles, your truths, and let her gather her arrows as we prepare for the fight of the century in politics.
She also writes with a natural grace that can't be taught. She is real. Especially around the thought of family: her hubby Doug is a very lucky dude. He must have some sort of game, bro. For real. Kamala is the girlfriend you grow up with - relentless and suitable - thoughtful and still casual. Love her pics in Chuck's as well as suited and booted. And it's not just an image: you get the feeling she wouldn't hesitate to turn over her transcripts from college and law school, although she'd stare you down as you perused them. She even reflects on undercutting the bar in CA as if that's not embarrassing material...her closest brush with failure on a career level...but one that we all can identify with as a humbling turn.
America is suffering. Our citizenry is pouring out tears on a daily level. We want to believe that these tears are being collected in Angel's chalices, and presented to our King for action. But you can't supply tears and expect favor all at once, without proper balance. Only when our #scales are balanced will we start to see justice on a new level, on a level higher than the four evils can ever reach. That comes only with leadership, with matrimony of right, responsibility, respect and grace, and with a conscientious doer of the dream, like Kamala Harris.
